Part P is a new part of the Building Regulations which has been introduced by government and affects all electrical work carried out in dwellings. People carrying out electrical work in homes and gardens in England and Wales should follow the rules set out in Part P of the Building Regulations to ensure that they are complying with the law. These rules are designed to ensure that electrical work is safe.

Electrician and bathroom fitter prosecuted for breach of Part P of the Building Regulations
An electrician in Newcastle and a bathroom fitter from the Bath and Somerset area are the first to be successfully prosecuted for offences under Part P of the Building Regulations.

Course Schedule
On the 1st January 2005 the government introduced new rules on carrying out electrical work in domestic properties. The defined scope Part P award is designed to prove competence for Plumbers and other associated trades on electrical work they may carry out. Some of the work covered by Part P is:
The course consists of four days training and one day assessment. The assessments are both practical and theory question papers.
Upon completion of the award the candidate can self certificate electrical work that falls under Part P of the Building Regulations. The award lasts for five years, thereafter the candidate will need to be reassessed.
